President Clinton Spotlights HIPPY at the DNC in Philadelphia

Less than two weeks ago, Diversified Community Services celebrated the end of its first year with its HIPPY families. HIPPY is the Home Instruction for the Parents of Preschool Youngsters. HIPPY is a groundbreaking preschool program that partners with parents to prepare their children for success in school, particularly those most at risk because of poverty. President Clinton talks about how Secretary Hillary Rodham Clinton brought the HIPPY program to Arkansas 30 years ago.

Just last year, Diversified Community Services brought the first HIPPY program in the State of Pennsylvania to South Philadelphia. HIPPY was developed to teach low income parents to be their children’s first teachers. HIPPY works to improve readiness for school and academic achievement and how lives of young people have been changed because of HIPPY’s evidence-based home visiting program. “Diversified is very proud of the work that we do in South Philadelphia, and appreciate seeing our HIPPY program acknowledged by President Clinton’s DNC address,” said Otis L. Bullock, Jr., Executive Director of Diversified Community Services. Diversified’s HIPPY program has been generously supported the William Penn Foundation and PEW Charitable Trust. The program has recently been awarded $200,000 for program expansion by Vanguard as well.
